Accommodation & Transfers
Upon
your arrival on the Island your hosts will meet you at the wharf and
transport you to your accommodation. Please see our accommodation tab for more information.
Health/Medical
When
planning a trip to the Pitcairn Islands you should take into account
the remoteness of the Island. If you require medication, we strongly
advise that you seek extra supplies from your doctor prior to
travelling and bring it with you. We have a doctor on island and
a small health clinic but we may not have what you need as we tailor
our supplies to meet the current needs of the local population.
Massage and acupuncture services are also available at Jacqui
Christian’s – “Jacq’s Place”.
Remember there is a
minimum of 2 days sea travel to the nearest airport from Pitcairn,
providing there is a ship or boat around to take you there.
We would also recommend that you bring mosquito repellent and sunscreen with you.
Insurance
Travel
insurance and medical insurance including medivac cover in case of
accident is compulsory for all visitors to the Pitcairn Islands.
We aim to have you meet all of your connections but in case of bad
weather and lengthened travelling times travel insurance ensures that
you have peace of mind should you be delayed and have to change your
flights.
Temperature/Dress Code
Pitcairn’s
average summer temperature ranges from 20-30 degrees centigrade. In
winter it can drop as low as 13 degrees centigrade at night. The
humidity ranges from 50-100% all year round. Most of the year
shorts and tee shirts are comfortable though long sleeves, light
jackets and jeans are great for the cooler times. It is usually
cooler from May to October. There is no dress code on the island
and if you want to get adventures and collect bananas for instance, the
stain never comes out of clothing so don’t bring you best clothes and
white things may never be white again! We do like to dress up a
bit for church or going out to Christian’s Café but this is still
casual.
Shopping
What can you buy?
There
aren’t any souvenir shops on the island, but all locals sell their
souvenirs from their homes to visitors. Some specialise in
different things so please ask to view their items.
T-shirts,
baseball caps, hats, bags, coats, jewellery, tea towels, post cards,
stamps, coins and locally made produce including honey, wooden
carvings, thatched baskets, soap etc....
There is one local
convenience store call the Government Store, where you can purchase a
limited range of imported meats, frozen vegetables, canned goods, dry
goods, chocolate, soft drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, toiletries,
cleaning products etc.. The Store is open Sunday, Tuesday
and Thursday mornings.

Dollars even though our official currency is New Zealand Dollars.
We trade mostly with ships and the international currency there is
USD. Currency change facilities and even withdrawal
facilities are available at the Treasury Office located in the town
square although we do not have an ATM machine. Credit card
facilities are also available at the Treasury Office.
Post Office and the Store prices are listed in New Zealand Dollars, the official currency.

socket system is the Australia / New Zealand standard so bring travel
adapters with you if you have something else.

The
main religion and only church on the island is Seventh Day Adventist.
Church services begin with “Sabbath School” at 10am and the main
service at 11am on Saturdays. Dress code is casual. You are more
than welcome to attend. Approximately 20% of the population
attend church.
